The Short of the Year Award 2024 will honour an exceptional short film submitted to Short Films Matter in 2024.

Voting Process:

The process began with the longlisting of films that met the eligibility criteria (see below). These films were open to public voting from January 26th through their respective review pages on Short Films Matter.

Longlist Public voting concluded on February 22nd, and the top 10 voted films were revealed as the finalists on February 23rd, 2025.

The final 10 films continue to be open for public voting until February 28th, 2025, with previous votes being carried over from the longlist voting stage.

The winner will be revealed on March 2nd, 2025 – coinciding with the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony.

Eligibility:

Films that are eligible must have been submitted to Short Films Matter in 2024. and received a rating of 5 stars from our critics as well as a handpicked badge.

Films submitted after December 31st, 2024, were not eligible for the Short of the Year Award 2024.

Recognition:

The winner of Short of the Year 2024 will be bestowed with a special laurel badge.
