Written and directed by Daniel Hamby, ‘In the Dead of Light’ is a short mystery thriller than explores the immediate afterlife of the deceased protagonist. Kyle Riggs leads the cast as Wes, with Edem Lee as Holly – Wes’ girlfriend. The film delves into Wes’ frantic discovery of his wounded body and his relationship with Holly. A nail-biting watch that rewards viewers with an unforseen narrative twist.

The 5-minute film opens with the protagonist nauseated on the road outside his home. In bewilderment, he detects his lifeless body adjacent to his car. The glare of the rising sun sparks a scramble inside, where he attempts to wake up his partner. Despite wailing, his spiritual presence is not perceptible to the living. After Holly finally wakes, due to his energy shattering a light bulb, he pieces together the cause of his fatality – with startling results.

Daniel Hamby has created a riveting short that is beautifully crafted both technically and narratively. Shot in real time, the film delivers ample special effects throughout – which will certainly beguile viewers. Riggs’ performance is flawless – his ability to portray discomposure that invites empathy is praiseworthy. The cinematography is equally commendable and is produced with industry-level quality throughout. Sound and post-production is neatly exectucd. Highly reccomended.
