Written and directed by Tim Lyons, ‘A Tale of Tragedy’ is a short horror film that explores the sinister goings-on at remote nunnery in 17th century Ireland. The film tackle’s themes of religion, grief and malevolence. Noelle Clarke leads the cast as Sister Mary. An eerie thriller that will grip the viewer from start to finish.
The 13-minute film opens with Sister Mary in prayer. The tempestuous climate sets a chilling atmosphere. A howl from Sister Adana (Megan McArthur) interrupts Sister Mary’s prayer. A nun is dead, which sets up the hair-raising mystery. Distraught by grief, Sister Adana begins to question her faith. As another tragedy strikes, the narrative takes an ungodly turn with a disturbing twist.
Tim Lyons has delivered an extraordinary film with an enthralling narrative throughout. Noelle Clarke’s portrayal as Sister Mary is spellbinding, a highly captivating performance. Megan McArthur’s role as Sister Adana is equally commendable. A terrific cast delivery. Costume/production design is exceptional – as is the breath-taking location scenery (filmed in Northern Ireland). Cinematography (by James Taylor) is second-to-none, which aids the haunting tone and frightening ambience. Post-production, lighting and sound are of the upmost professional quality. A startling watch. Highly recommended.
