Flicker

A thrilling ride of suspense.

Review

Written and directed by Jacob Simmons, ‘Flicker’ is a short thriller film that delves into suspense and mystery. Set in real-time, the haunting film tells the story of a young woman who returns home to paranormal activity outside her house. Holly Bopp leads the cast as the vulnerable victim, with Aaron Russell as the intimidating antagonist.

The 2-minute short opens with the protagonist noticing her porch light flickering. Whilst investigating the cause, a masked figure startles her from the darkness. In fright, she attempts to unlock her front door – but the mysterious villain catches her in her track. A thrilling ride of suspense throughout that will bring chills to the viewer.

Visually, the film is professional shot with outstanding cinematography and night-lighting. Production sound and music are of equal merit. Isaac Russell (Cinematographer) has done a stellar job capturing the intense action. Lighting is second-to-none – a cinematic finish that aids the tone of the narrative. Despite a simple plotline and a narrow runtime, the film will captivate viewers from start-to-finish. Holly Bopp’s performance deserves high praise – her sense of fear is absorbing. ‘Flicker’ is a gripping watch from the offset – however, the narrative is short-lived and lacks a rewarding conclusion. Viewers will be left wanting more. Jacob Simmons has created a neat thriller that deserves appreciation for its technicality. Highly recommended.
