You’re Not Welcome Here

A chilling psychological thriller about guilt.
4/5

Review

‘You’re Not Welcome Here’ is a chilling and thought-provoking psychological thriller by Samuel Craig that keeps the audience constantly guessing. The film centres around lead actor Diego Da Silva’s character, a young man who wakes up in a stranger’s house with no recollection of how he got there.

The film’s slow pacing and emphasis on mystery and suspense add to the unsettling atmosphere, as Diego navigates through the eerily familiar house.

The narrated voice-over is exceptionally executed, heightening the plot’s liveliness and the tension in every scene. The film relies mostly on Diego da Silva’s performance to convey the story, but the house itself is a character, and Nuikolas Taduran’s cinematography perfectly builds the ominous atmosphere of the tragic setting.

The story’s reality comes together gradually through clues that are both explicit and symbolic. The ending is an interesting yet tense payoff to a harrowing and fulfilling viewing experience.

Overall, the film’s reliance on atmosphere, suspense, and narrative command is apparent, but it never sacrifices the quality of the acting or the visuals. ‘You’re Not Welcome Here’ is ultimately a great achievement in psychological thrillers, leaving the viewer with plenty of questions to ponder well after the credits roll. Highly recommended for fans of the genre and storytelling in the horror film space.
