‘Fulfillment’ by George Lynch is a poignant and heartfelt drama that explores themes of homelessness, hope, and music. The 6-minute film follows the story of a homeless teenage boy named Sam, played by Zachary Friend, who finds inspiration in a busker playing guitar, portrayed by Holly Lihou. Without any dialogue, the film manages to convey the loneliness and desperation that Sam feels in his struggle to survive on the streets.
The sweet and touching moment towards the end of the film, where the fellow-busker throws him a coin, is an endearing moment that portrays the innate kindness of people, no matter which circumstance they find themselves in. The music in the film adds to the emotional resonance of the story, with the guitar and flute notes echoing the inner turmoil and hope of Sam.
While the film suffers from some unpolished aspects and the lack of in-depth exploration of Sam’s backstory, the narrative manages to be light-hearted despite the emotional weight of the subject matter.
