Written and directed by Darius Delsoin. ‘Venge’ is a short thriller film that explores trust and perception between the two central characters. Jose Alberto Alvarez leads the cast as Calvin, a faithful young man who finds himself in a perilous situation whilst on a pursuit for his missing girlfriend. Michelle Batista co-stars as Calvin’s girlfriend Gina, with Brian Collins as the narrative antagonist, Victor. The riveting drama delves into themes of corruption, loss, love and criminality.
The 8-minute thriller opens with the besotted couple resting in a local park. When Gina confides to Calvin that she is meeting Victor later – a shady lawbreaker from her past – Calvin’s anxiety and suspicion intensifies – which is further elevated when she goes missing for 3 days. Without spoiling the narrative climax, the succeeding scenes delve into the integrity of their relationship.
Under Darius Delsoin’s adept direction, with splendid cinematography by Joe Acierno, ‘Venge’ is a well crafted thriller that has ample performances throughout. Despite several post-production audio issues with exterior sound, the technicality is largely admirable – particularly when it comes to the cinematic-style lighting and cinematography. Suspense and trepidation are aided by the stellar soundtrack and expert fight choreography. A gripping watch. Highly recommended viewing.
