Directed and shot by Igor Klepnev, this Russian-language experimental piece is not your standard music video – this is an unflinching visual elegy paired with the haunting voice of Kazakh musician Maslo Chernogo Tmina, an artist known for his dark, life-torn soundscapes.
There is no traditional narrative, only raw mood and visceral feeling. Our solitary protagonist stands waist-deep in the desolate mirror of a lake, a stark figure in a collapsing world. The entire film moves downward like an endless strip of cinematic frames, each new image revealed as if unspooling a fever dream.
Wilderness. Wild animals. Dripping blood. Flocks of birds. The editing is an extraordinary creative stroke – a hypnotic, seamless scroll that elevates the film into something greater than its parts.
Over this, he sings in Russian, a voice caught between singing and speaking, a lament for death, longing and surrender. “My death is beautiful,” he repeats – the phrase becomes a heartbeat. The translated lyrics reveal fractured poetry: plunging off cliffs, split worlds, unseen rhythms, living ghosts. It is chilling, sobering and heartbreakingly sincere.
Klepnev’s cinematography is of the highest quality. The visual craft here is staggering – stylish, kinetic, yet always emotionally grounded. ‘Maslo Chernogo Tmina – Outro’ is a visual spectacle, an experimental triumph, and a brutally poignant work of art. Highly recommended.
