‘Homeless Tobez’, written, directed by, and starring the talented Thomas Loone, is a breath of fresh air in the comedy scene. Set on the streets of Britain, the film follows Tobez, a homeless man with a surprising optimism and an unbreakable spirit. Armed with a dream of buying a guitar to pursue his singing passion, Tobez greets each day with a spring in his step. Loone’s charismatic performance brings this character to life, making him instantly likable and heartwarming.
The film kicks off with Tobez rummaging through garbage, yet it never feels bleak. Instead, there’s a joy and humor that shines through his banter and camaraderie with his friend Dandy, played with eccentric charm by Jason Adam. Their back-and-forth is full of wit, showing the humor and resilience of those society often overlooks. This bond gives the film its heart, as the two navigate a world that barely notices them.
Cinematographer Robert Cannon deserves applause for the beautiful, high-quality shots. The framing is sharp, and the film’s visual storytelling is as bright as its characters.
Adding to the mix is Sebastian Storey as Malcolm, a non-homeless character who offers Tobez help but with a “social media twist” that many will recognize. Hayley Mitchell rounds out the cast as a no-nonsense woman who lets Tobez shower in her home, adding layers of complexity to the story.
At its heart, ‘Homeless Tobez’ is about the friendship between Tobez and Dandy, and the unexpected selflessness that brings light to Tobez’s plight. Thomas Loone’s talent shines in this offbeat, funny, and heartfelt film – a must-watch that leaves you with a smile. Highly recommended.
