Review

Belle Asher’s ‘Goddess Memory’ is a cinematic meditation on female power, an ethereal whisper to women urging them to reclaim their inner goddess. With narration by Rhonda Solomon, the film tugs at the soul, reminding us that the strength of ancient goddesses still courses through the veins of modern women. It’s bold without yelling, gentle but uncompromising.

The cinematography, an almost painterly blend of raw earth and sky, transports us to a place where natural elements are intertwined with feminine energy. The drone shots by Shai Schnieder elevate the visuals (literally), making the landscapes almost otherworldly, yet hauntingly familiar. There’s an intimacy in how each woman – Cee Ben-Davic, Ofry Cohen, Gal Yaari, and more – moves within the space, their presence commanding without force. Each embraces the raw power of wind, water, earth, and fire, while their collective energy seems to ripple through the screen.

Is ‘Goddess Memory’ a subtle commentary on societal inequality? Absolutely. But it does so through artistic elegance, wrapping its message in beauty rather than confrontation. It doesn’t shout; it resonates. Asher has created a visual poem, a quiet yet firm call to action, urging women to not only find their full potential but to demand it. In societies where empowerment is often commercialized, ‘Goddess Memory’ offers something purer: a reminder of who women have always been.
