Experiences

An ode to street encounters with strangers.
3/5

Review

Caitlyn Seidel’s documentary film, Experiences’ is a heartwarming dive into the serendipitous connections between strangers. The film showcases the voices of Gavin, Anas, and Mohamed, who recount their most memorable interactions on the street. Gavin’s story about connecting with a fellow skateboarder crossing the street, Anas’s account of assisting an elderly lady struggling with her groceries, and Mohamed’s tale of spreading joy with flowers are touching and beautifully narrated.

Seidel’s decision to keep the contributors off-screen, focusing solely on their voices, is a masterstroke. This approach allows the audience to fully immerse themselves in the vivid storytelling. The visuals, enhanced with partial animation, weave seamlessly with the audio, creating a tapestry that is both intriguing and aesthetically pleasing.

Despite its low budget, the production quality is respectable and commendable. Seidel’s creativity shines through, demonstrating that powerful storytelling doesn’t require a hefty budget, just a keen eye for human connection and a deft touch in the editing room.

‘Experiences’ leaves you feeling uplifted and hopeful, a gentle reminder of the sense of community that still exists in our world. It’s a neat production that inspires, making you want to be part of the beautiful stories shared. Caitlyn Seidel has crafted an authentic and charming documentary that proves the power of kindness is ever-present and potent.
