A tangled web of same-sex desire and self-discovery.
4/5

Review

Moon Abbott’s latest creation, ‘Rebound’ where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and the journey of self-discovery unfolds amidst the tangled web of desire. At its heart lies Gwen, portrayed with captivating depth by Angel Page Smigielski. As Gwen grapples with her burgeoning sexuality, her mesmerizing encounter with Jo, portrayed with a charm by Mira Hinzman, ignites a whirlwind of emotions that threaten to consume her.

Smigielski’s performance delicately captures the intricacies of Gwen’s desires and confusion, drawing viewers into her inner turmoil with each fleeting glance and hesitant touch. In tandem with Smigielski’s portrayal, Kieron Harrell delivers a commendable performance as Marcus, Gwen’s boyfriend, whose own world is on the brink of upheaval.

As Gwen’s fantasies intertwine with reality, Snore Doumbia’s cinematography skillfully captures the essence of her internal struggle, while Desmond Inglis’s evocative musical score sets the tone, guiding viewers through the peaks and valleys of Gwen’s journey.

‘Rebound’ explores identity, desire, and the complexities of self-discovery. Under Abbott’s direction, the short weaves a seductive narrative that beckons viewers into a captivating and almost fantastical world. Highly recommended.
