Drama Queen

Love’s twisted tale takes a bloody comical turn in this dark tale of revenge.

Review

‘Drama Queen’ is a macabre yet hilariously twisted concoction from the mind of David E. Teixeira. This horror-themed comedy takes viewers on a chilling ride through the psyche of a young woman, played by Catarina Carvalho. Set entirely within the claustrophobic confines of an apartment, the film unfolds in three acts, each more demented than the last.

Carvalho delivers a spellbinding performance as our psychotic protagonist, her eyes ablaze with a fervent desire for vengeance upon discovering her partner’s homosexuality. With a wickedly sharp tongue and a penchant for brutal retaliation, she navigates through a series of increasingly bizarre and bloody antics, all while delivering soliloquies dripping with dark humor and razor-sharp wit.

‘Drama Queen’ unapologetically embraces its own eccentricity. The film revels in its off-kilter premise, blending adult-themed comedy with gory horror elements to create a truly unique viewing experience. Teixeira’s direction is deft and assured, making the most of the film’s low-budget constraints to deliver a visually striking and technically proficient production.

Despite its unconventional aspect ratio (1:1), the cinematography, sound design, and editing are all of a commendable industry standard, lending the film a polished finish that will keep viewers hooked. But it’s Carvalho’s powerhouse performance that steals the show, her character’s wickedness leaping off the screen with every gleeful act of revenge.

Teixeira has crafted an entertaining short that will leave audiences simultaneously gasping in horror and laughter. It’s a twisted fairy tale gone horribly awry, and one that deserves to be seen by fans of dark comedy everywhere.
