Review

Written and directed by Jeff Perreca, and loosely based on Edgar Allen Poe’s short story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’, ‘Bury Me’ is a short horror film that unravels a man’s repentance and guilt after being haunted by his diseased victim. Mike Markoff stars as the central character, “The Digger” – a killer who is faced with a sinister presence whilst trying to dispose of a body. With adept cinematography and an eerie musical soundtrack, the short is certain to keep the viewing audience on startling tenterhooks.

Throughout the 5-minute narrative, which is primarily set in a desolate wasteland, “The Digger” succumbs to the faint whispers of an unearthly voice. Bewildered and disturbed, the man continues to slaughter the body – in an effort to remove any doubt. Without spoiling the narrative climax, the succeeding scenes, explore the killers culpability with enhanced paranormality.

Under Jeff Perreca’s masterful direction, ‘The Digger’ is a riveting watch that will no doubt bring trepidation and a sense of mystery to the viewing audience. Cinematography (Russell Kawaguchi) is of an outstanding standard – with cinematic production value from start-to-finish. Sound, post-production, exterior lighting and music are equally commendable. Mike Markoff’s portrayal is brilliantly executed – enough to bring about viewer empathy. Prepare to be spooked. Highly recommended.
