4/5

Review

Written and directed by Tom Arcaro, ‘The Suppertime Sinners: Entrée’ is a proof of concept short film, produced to promote the crowdfund for a feature film. The horror-themed narrative stars Mathew Da Via as Adam Evanson, a high school teacher tasked from a spiritual being to cleanse the youth of today from corrupt desires.

Made up of an ensemble cast including; Zayne Ferguson, Macy Abercrombie, Charli Jasmine Curtis, Ainsley Thomson, Thomas de Laine, Sebastian Bertoli, Jaxon Bierman Zaliah Courbois and Olivia Fildes, the film delves into themes of identity and religion with a sinister underbelly.

The 6-minute concept opens with a poignant exchange between Adam and a divine presence. After relinquishing his own personal desires, Adam is assigned with purifying the younger generation from sin and immoral behaviour. The narrative subsequently, albeit fleetingly, introduces us to a group of students in detention – of which Adam is disciplining. The video concludes with a menacing tone that will leave the audience on tenterhooks.

Despite being a proof of concept production, the video is of a highly cinematic standard with Steller cinematography, production design and editing. Jared Walker’s original score and Louise Gaul’s ‘These Palms’ aid the overall tone of trepidation with a riveting sentiment – an enchanting watch/listen. With awe-inspiring technicality, the video gives an exciting insight of what’s to come.

To financially support the production, you can contribute on the crowdfund page.
