Apathetic Epidemic

A dark comedy about an inconsiderate dystopian society.

Review

Written and directed by David Solomon, ‘Apathetic Epidemic’ is a dark comedy film that explores a dystopian-like society where compassion for fellow men ceases to exist. Lex Godoy leads the cast as “Dick” (a mislabeled identity from his offbeat Pizza delivery employer), who finds himself amidst societal carnage – manifested by a self-absorbed humanity. Additional cast include; David Solomon and Daniel Ray Hutchinson. The short delves into the protagonists bewilderment and subsequent trepidation. In spite of the grim narrative, the film is dredged with comic relief from start-to-finish.

Throughout the 33-minute comedy, which consists of an ensemble cast with character crossovers, we witness the insensitive behavior of several city dwellers. Criminality, aloofness and egoism is rife, much to the alarm of an unaltered do-gooder (“Dick”). Perhaps inspired by substandard social development in recent times, the film tackles detachment within communities and benevolent human kindness in general. A striking film that shouldn’t be overlooked.

David Solomon has delivered a curiously fascinating short with praiseworthy cast performances all round – particularly from Lex Godoy. The compelling narrative alone is certain to keep viewers engaged, captivated and enthralled until the closing credits. Technically, the film is well crafted with fine cinematography, sound and post-production. A gripping watch that promises a few awkward belly-laughs. Highly recommended.
