Scene 25R

A comedic drama that explores the relationship between two brothers during a film production.
4/5

Review

Written and directed by Jacob Harding¸’Scene 25R’ is a short drama film that delves into the relationship between two brothers in the film industry. The film stars Sam Harding as Scott, a precarious actor, and Vincent Sadler as John, his assertive director. The narrative explores the brothers on and off set dynamic as they attempt to secure a winning take. A charming tale of sibling tension and unconditional love.

The 10-minute drama, which is sprinkled with multiple comedic moments, takes the audience behind the scenes of an independent production – aptly titled ‘Pretentious’. Under John’s eagle-eyed direction, Scott struggles with performance delivery – due to his co-star’s lack of talent. During recess we learn of Vincent’s infatuation for Ally (his AD) – but lacks all courage to pursue her. Despite their differences, the brothers champion each other’s professional and personal hurdles – with endearing results.

Enthusiasts of filmmaking will be treated by the behind-the-scenes aspect of the narrative, albeit fictional. Harding and Sadler’s brotherly chemistry is highly captivating and unequivocally convincing. Without spoiling the concluding plot, the narrative is well structured throughout with an uplifting tone to finish. Jacob Harding has crafted a decent short with stellar production value. Cinematography, sound and post-production are of a praiseworthy standard. Highly recommended.
