Blink

An animation that explores the afterlife of a bunny rabbit.
3/5

Review

Created by Luke Grenier, ‘Blink’ is a 2D animation film that explores the chilling afterlife of a deceased bunny rabbit. Crafted in grey-scale, the micro-short follows the mammal’s journey through hell after being left as roadkill. The narrative omits character dialogue, relying on imagery to convey the narrative. Grenier’s craftmanship deserves high acclaim for its captivating artistry and compelling themes; death and religion.

The 2-minute animation opens with the tragic traffic death of the rabbit. As the spirit departs the body, the rabbit is faced with the enticing staircase to heaven – which is brutally replaced with the pits of hell and its wicked atmosphere. It is not disclosed why the rabbit is penalized with a grim destiny. As the bunny endures life under Satan’s rule, he befriends an “eyeball demon” and together they voyage through hell’s savagery. A dark tale with a promising continuation.

Animator Luke Grenier has created a fine short, which acts as his final project for his first animation class. Grenier shows great potential in his creative ability – a gifted animator to keep an eye on.
