Am I See You?

A witty Disney-themed musical comedy with a dark underbelly.
5/5

Review

Directed by Daryl Della, from a script by Della, Daniel Viau, Sasha Boggs and Tara Erickson, ‘Am I See You?’ is a short musical comedy set in a Disneyland theme park. The narrative delves into our protagonist’s sentimentality, as she attempts to discover the truth about her late mother’s pin. Tara Erickson leads the cast as Whitney, with Sasha Boggs as her lively best friend (Alana). Additional cast include; Ray Revello, Becker Von Felsburg, Michael Martin and Daryl Della. With a scintillating plot and musicality, the film delves into themes of friendship, conspiracy, grief and nostalgia. An enthralling short that takes viewers into the dark shadows of Disney.

The 35-minute film opens with Whitney reminiscing over family photo albums from her childhood. As she unearths a curious looking pin, Whitney and Alana resort to Disneyland where they find themselves in a vulnerable pickle with an alarming group of Disney collectors. The film is blazingly crafted with scores of hilarious Disney-themed puns throughout. The musical performances are a delight to watch, despite the sinister underbelly of the narrative. The entire cast deliver exquisite performances, most notably from Erickson and Boggs. Fans of Disney will find this film highly exhilaration from start-to-finish.

Daryl Della and the cast/crew have created a spectacular comedy with an immense intention to detail. Humor may be at the forefront of the storyline, but the heart of the narrative is about keeping the departed alive. Visually, the film is gloriously crafted with stellar cinematography, editing and production/costume design. The score is equally commendable. Expect an abundance of entertainment and hilarity – with a drop of trepidation. Highly recommended.
