Freaky

A sci-fi themed music video by the artist Yeek.
4/5

Review

Written and directed by Christian D.K. Long, ‘Freaky’ is a short music video by the American artist Yeek (Sebastian Carandang). The sci-fi inspired film is a visualisation of his pop-themed track ‘Freaky (RGB)’. Carandang stars as a video-game character, with Sauda Seifudden as the gamer. The narrative delves into themes of relationships, love, isolation, sexuality and technology.

The 2-minute video opens with the gamer/scientist (Seifudden) entering a make-shift underground clinic. We are subsequently introduced to the patient/game character (Carandang/Yeek) who lies shirtless on an operating table. Whilst undergoing a high-tech procedure, Yeek’s seductive vocality is set into motion – continuing on with his game character persona. The sensual lyrics speak of his desire for intimacy with his partner, despite built-up frustrations regarding her lingering ex-boyfriend.

Christian D.K. Long (Writer/Director) has created an admirable film with an entrancing poetic narrative – which does the accompanying track justice. Yeek’s vocal and acting performance is alluring from the offset – a commendable artist worth checking out. Despite a limited runtime, Sauda Seifudden’s portrayal is equally laudable. Visually, the film is constructed with awe-inspiring production design, cinematography and visual effects. A nod of appreciation goes to Jeremy Belack (Director of Photography) and Regina Velasco (VFX/Animation). Highly recommended.
