An absurd comedy that takes a satirical look at COVID-19 prevention.
5/5

Review

Written and directed by Rosie May Bird Smith, ‘Herd Immunity’ is a short comedy film that takes an absurd look into a man’s prevention against the COVID-19 virus. Jonny Freeman leads the cast as an impressionable recluse who spends his day watching mainstream news reports about the pandemic. The short doesn’t take itself too seriously, and was inspired by the multitude of conspiracy theories surrounding the virus.

The 2-minute short opens with the disheveled man isolated in his unkept home. Engrossed with television news reports, the man is alerted to the suggestion that sheep’s wool acts as COVID-19 prevention. Taking the motion literally, he invests in a herd of sheep to live with him in his cramped home. A peculiar tale that will reward viewers with a ton of belly-laughs. The film concludes with his comeuppance.

Rosie May Bird Smith has created a witty narrative that touches on the hundreds of bizarre preventive measures we all heard during the pandemic. Johnny Freeman delivers a highly amusing portrayal throughout – an outstanding comical performance. The use of a jocular yodeling soundtrack throughout aids the hilarity, giving the film a distinct tone. The film is a light-hearted tale that will keep viewers captivated, engaged and entertained. Cinematography, sound and post-production are of an exceptional standard. High praise to the entire cast/crew. Highly recommended.
