Lake District Walks: Coniston Old Man Round

Neil Emery takes viewers on a breathtaking Lake District trek.
3/5

Review

Directed by Neil Emery, ‘Lake District Walks: Coniston Old Man Round’ is a short adventure documentary that follows an avid hiker on his pursuit of the Old Man of Coniston, a fell in the Cumbrian Furness Fells. The film stars Neil Emery, who self-tapes his expedition, showcasing breath-taking landscapes throughout. This low-budget production is a perfect escape for those with a keen interest in adventure travel and walking trips.

The 28-minute film forms part of a wider series of the Lake District. In this docu-short, Neil Emery grapples with the harsh English winter as he ascends the hills on a 10-hour trek. Throughout the film, Neil delivers his knowledge of the area and the routes to follow. A poignant scene is during his visit to a memorial site of an aviation disaster, where some of the remains are still present. (Halifax Bomber LL505, 1944). A fine film full of awe-inspiring scenery from start-to-finish.

The film is constructed in the form of a Video Blog (Vlog), with self-footage from the get-go. The audience will be enthralled with Neil’s knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as his nifty camera work. Despite its low production value, the documentary is well presented with adequate sound and post-production. It is worth checking out more of Neil’s content, available on the Lake District Films YouTube account.
