Spook Light

A sci-fi themed horror inspired by a true legend.
3/5

Review

‘Spook Light’ is a captivating short film directed by Ryan Hughes that skillfully combines elements of science fiction and horror. Inspired by a true legend, the story follows two teenagers, portrayed by Connor Hughes and Lauren Ruth, as they embark on a journey to witness a mysterious light that has puzzled the residents along the Oklahoma/Missouri border.

Despite being a low-budget production, the film manages to create a well-crafted atmosphere that draws viewers in. The majority of the film takes place inside a pick-up truck, which adds a sense of claustrophobia and intensifies the suspense. While there are some minor post-production issues, they can easily be overlooked in light of the overall intrigue of the narrative.

One area where the film excels is in its narrative suspense. The film gradually builds tension, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the next revelation. The acting is also commendable, with both Connor Hughes and Lauren Ruth delivering respectable performances that bring authenticity to their characters.

The film’s only major drawback is its slightly drawn-out runtime, which could hinder viewer engagement. However, this is a small criticism in comparison to the overall experience provided. The short successfully combines fright and suspense, leaving the audience captivated by the tale it weaves.
