Written and directed by Iida Valmé, ‘Mirage’ is a short experimental film that explores one woman’s journey of self-discovery. Hope Achan stars as Rinah, a young woman who is overcome with melancholy and uncertainty. Kevina Igiraneza co-stars as Iris, a stranger who triggers her state of euphoria. A poetic film that showcases themes of identity, spirituality, love and nature. The short is filmed without any dialogue.

The 8-minute film opens with Rinah walking on a secluded path amongst nature. Stopping on her tracks, she turns to notice a young woman at a flower stall. The woman (Iris) shines positive energy towards Rinah, which sparks overwhelming emotion within her soul. Continuing on her path, she receives glowing apparitions of herself, joyfully dancing, smiling and embracing all aspects of living.

Iida Valmé has created a truly thought-provoking piece of filmmaking. The experimental narrative may be perplexing to some, but the overriding sentiment is about finding oneself through the joy of others. Visually, the film is beautifully constructed with gorgeous cinematography throughout. A poignant poetic experience that is certain to captivate the viewer. Brief Synopsis

A brief encounter between two strangers leads Rinah to examine their inner world. The beauty that they see in this stranger strikes her deeply.
