Directed by Albion Sabani, from a script by Gabriel Carmona, ‘Lava Platos’ is a short comedy drama film that takes the audience on a ride of suspense with hilarity throughout. Set entirely in a closed restaurant, the film follows a waiter and a dish-washer who scrabble to serve up a respectable dish to a notorious gangster. Brian Jimenez stars as the Waiter, with Sonido Wizache as the dish-washer. A tense watch, albeit with humor from start to finish.
The 12-minute film opens with a restaurant closing for the night. With the chef now off-duty and the arrival of unexpected customer – a prolific gangster, the waiter and the non-English speaking dish-washer attempt to create a dish out of a limited food stock. As the waiter serves the unappealing dish to the gangster, he demands to see the chef with a surprising result.
Gabriel Carmona’s witty narrative is certain to keep viewers engaged throughout. Under Sabani’s direction, suspense is heightened by truly outstanding cast performances all round. Visually, the film is professional shot with terrific cinematography – coupled with high quality sound. Post-production is equally commendable. ‘Lava Platos’ holds strong with its comedic tone, particularly due to its brilliant characterization and dialogue. Expect a few belly laughs. Highly recommended.
