Spy Tops Spy 2: I’ve Been Set Up

A satire about two arrogant spies.
3/5

Review

Directed by Jordan Tofalo & Stash, from a script by Stash, ‘Spy Tops Spy 2: I’ve Been Set Up’ is a short comedy film and sequel to ‘Spy Tops Spy’. The short follow’s similar themes to the first movie; jealousy and narcissism. Viewers will be treated to another overstated satire that mocks familiar espionage thrillers. Jordan Tofalo resumes her role as Diana, with Stash as Karl. A peculiar, albeit funny watch.

The 3-minute film opens with Karl relaxing in full business dress on a remote beach. His quietude is quickly disturbed by Diana’s arrival from the water – scantily dressed in a bikini that echoes the James Bond franchise. Diana and Karl dispute who’s been set up the most, igniting their arrogance once again. In similar fashion to the first movie, Diana continues to leave Karl in a state of belittlement and fury.

A solid improvement from the first film, Jordan and Stash have excelled in their comical sequel. Despite running parallel narratives, the eccentric characterization alone brings engagement and entertainment. Cinematography, sound and editing are of a reasonable standard. Audiences of both films will be left feeling keen to revisit the characters once again.
