Out of This World: The Ricky Lyme Story

A tongue-in-cheek comedy about a man who is convinced he was abducted by aliens.

Review

Written and directed by Jordan Togalo, ‘Out of This World: The Ricky Lyme Story’ is a sci-fi comedy film that tells the story of a frantic man who wakes up in a secluded field with no memory of how he got there. Stash leads the cast as Ricky Lyme, with a brief appearance of Jordan Togalo. A farcical comedy that delves into the sci-fi genre – as Ricky is certain he was abducted by aliens. A low-budget production made solely for belly-laughs.

The 8-minute film opens with sweeping cinematography as Ricky dashes through woodlands. Almost the entire short sees Ricky on a quest for answers, whilst sprinting his way home. Fear, confusion, and paranoia overcome his senses. The viewer is teased with the truth from the offset, as an alien can be seen following his tracks. The use of dramatic irony throughout will keep viewers engaged until the closing credits.

Despite its low-production value, the technicality of the short is remarkable. The cinematography will certainly thrill viewers by its dramatic movements. Jordan Togalo and Stash are known for creating tongue-in-cheek narratives – this one is no exception. A funny watch from the get-go. Editing, sound, music and special effects are of a reasonable standard. Recommended for light entertainment.
