Screamless

A comical parody of Wes Craven’s acclaimed horror franchise.
4/5

Review

Directed by Nicholas Venecia, from a script by Venecia & Andres Red Valdez, ‘Screamless’ is a short comedy parody that takes a satirical look at Wes Craven’s ‘Scream’ franchise. Nicolas Thompson leads the cast as Ghostface. Additional cast include; Freddy Lopez, Leslie Gomez, Andres Valdez, Michael Maynes, and Nicholas Venecia as the therapist. The short doesn’t take itself too seriously and will come as a comical treat to fans of the acclaimed franchise.

The 2-minute film opens with Ghostface confined to a psychiatric hospital, where he opens up to his therapist about the downfall of his antagonistic activities. Since the 90’s, technology has advanced to new heights – in the form of security surveillance and cellular enhancements – much to the grievance of Ghostface. His thrill for blood no longer comes easy, which has resulted in his incarceration and undergoing therapy. An amusing watch from start to finish.

Visually, the film is shot to a highly professional standard – enough that it replicates the original film series. Costume design is second-to-none. The comedy will stir the audience to empathize with Ghostface, which brings a decent tone of humor throughout. Due to its satirical narrative and short runtime, the performances are of an acceptable standard – falling short of anything extraordinary. The widely recognized voice of Ghostface is unfortunately nowhere to be heard – perhaps with the intension to treat viewers to the “real voice” of the infamous antagonist. A neat film that will bring a few laughs. Highly recommended.
