Review

Written and directed by Tavian King, ‘Adrestia’ is a short drama thriller that explores domestic abuse and one man’s quest for a solution. Tavian King leads the cast as Troy, with Skye Wiesner as his roommate (Addy). Jeffrey Scott Treadway completes the cast as Zee, Addy’s abusive boyfriend. The short takes an unflinching look into abusive relationships from a psychological viewpoint.

The 22-minute film opens with Troy in destress after witnessing his roommate being physically abused by her boyfriend. The abuse triggers his own past experience with his father. Curious to understand why Addy puts up with the mistreatment, Troy attempts to help the situation – leading to perilous consequences.

Tavian King (Writer/Director) doesn’t shy away from showcasing high violence and authentic scenes of emotional and physical abuse. The powerful narrative is supported by solid performances by the entire cast, particularly from Tavian King (Troy). Skye Wiesner delivers an equally captivating portrayal as the victim. Despite being a low-budget short, the film is shot with commendable cinematography with high quality sound and post-production. Viewers may be startled by the gripping scenes of conflict, but important viewing none-the-less. A thrilling watch from start-to-finish.
