Skulker

A genre-bending crime thriller with a staggering twist.
5/5

Review

Written and directed by Tari Kristine Robinson, ‘Skulker’ is a short thriller film that examines the mystery behind near-identical homicides. Liyah Thompson leads the cast as Detective Madison Johnson, who is perplexed by the lack of criminal evidence at each killing ground. When a lovable dog is left abandoned at the latest homicide, Madison’s infatuation leads her towards adopting the canine, and unbeknownst to her, closer to the serial killer. With a sensational ensemble cast and splendid technicality, ‘Skulker’ is one of those films that you won’t stop thinking about.

The 27-minute genre-bender opens at a fresh crime scene, one of many unsolved homicides that have plagued the local vicinity. Maddison is left bewildered by the absence of forensic or physical evidence at the scene, but is determined to get to the bottom of the bloodshed. Diverted by the appearance of a neglected canine, which she temporally fosters, the narrative gears off into the inconceivable world of paranormality – with startling results.

Tari Kristine Robinson deserves high praise for this narrative triumph. Viewers can expect an unforeseen staggering twist that will leave you wanting more. Liyah Thompson’s glorious portrayal is equally commendable – a talent that shouldn’t be overlooked. Jamaal Scott delivers adept cinematography from the offset, setting the tone and action flawlessly. A sequel is certain to be high sought-after. An unmissable thriller. Highly recommended.
