Written and directed by Shikha Mahajan, ‘The Perfect World’ is a romantic comedy that explores the reunion of two childhood classmates. Aman Bamalwa stars as Deepak, with Lata Sharma as Lahar. The short is entirely set in a Delhi café and is filmed in the Hindi language (with English subtitles). A film which explores themes of regret, success, infatuation and love.

The 19-minute short opens with a business-savvy Lahar preparing her café for the day ahead. Whilst taking an order from a customer, she recognizes a familiar face – Deepak – a boy from her childhood. The two reminisce about school-life before disclosing their secret crush for one another. A spark of romance briefly ties Deepak and Lahar together, but the reality of time delivers a crushing reality check (they are both married with offspring). The film concludes with Deepak’s unseen exit, leaving behind a book of his poetry inspired by his childhood crush.

Shikha Mahajan has created a poignant film that will strike a chord with viewers. The film showcases the idea of reuniting with a childhood crush – and what would come of it. Aman Bamalwa and Lata Sharma deliver praiseworthy performances throughout, providing an endearing chemistry that will captivate the audience. Cinematography, lighting, editing and sound are of industry standard – a commendable effort by the crew. ‘The Perfect World’ is a charming film that deserves high praise. A sweet narrative from start-to-finish. Highly recommended.
