A comedic drama that shines a light on the offshoot of poverty.
5/5

Review

Derek Sitter‘s short comedy drama film delves into the aftermath of a failed bank robbery, with convincing comic elements. The film follows the story of Coy and Crow, played by Sitter and John Mese, respectively. The two are trapped in a remote farm shack, and their dialogue captures the woes of poverty and aspirations to become rich. However, underneath its obvious comedic elements lies a very poignant and touching story about inequality and the harsh realities of life.

The performances by Derek Sitter and John Mese are a tour-de-force. The actors’ chemistry elevates the narrative to a higher scale, making it highly comical, albeit emotionally moving and touching.

The film’s cinematography, lighting and sound design are exceptional, enhancing the visually stunning and thrilling aspects of the narrative. The location-sequence and the framing of situations keep the tension sustained, adding intrigue to the unfolding events that culminate in a startling ending.

Overall, the film genuinely surprises with its well-written story-line and humor that aptly balances pathos. It is definitely a great watch that deserves high praise, tackling a subject deeper than it’s category promises, turning it into a piece of work that can be deep, witty, funny, and affecting at the same time.
