Directed by Kevin Merrey and Gavin Kaps, ‘14 Days South: Over Sea and Land’ is a breath-taking documentary film that follows 5 eco-adventures and their cycle from the Orkney Islands to the Isles of Scilly. The aim of the film is to inspire, educate and showcase some of the work that is being done in the UK to limit the affects of climate change. Isaac Kenyon, one of the 5 adventurers, narrates the documentary. In addition to Isaac; Alex Pierrot, Sal Montgomery, Lukas Haitzmann and Alex Egan make up the Pedal 4 Parks expedition team.
The 30-minute documentary opens with David Saddington, Head of the Nature Campaign at the UN COP26. Whilst the audience is treated to stunning natural landscapes, David shares the disturbing fact that 80% of forests have been removed in the past 100 years to make way for commercial agriculture and urban areas. During the trek from the Orkney Islands to the Isles of Scilly, the team meet up with some inspiring individuals who are doing their bit to restore our national parks, and have the ingenuity to shape a more environmentally friendly society. Awareness, funding and collaboration is necessary to scale their efforts.
‘14 Days South: Over Sea and Land’ is highly educational from start to finish. High praise to the entire production crew and the 5 eco-adventures – this documentary is certain to captivate, motivate and encourage others to appreciate our natural world. The endurance and the emotional commitment that the Pedal 4 Parks team have shown is completely awe-inspiring. The film showcases the team’s use of water-bikes, where they become the first to cycle over sea and land from the Orkney Islands to the Isles of Scilly. Cinematography is a pic-in-mix of outstanding drone footage, spectacular wide-angle shots, personal POV’s and interview footage. A highly engaging film throughout. Highly recommended.
