Stronger Than You Think

An enticing micro-short that explores female empowerment.
5/5

Review

Written and directed by Laurent Stine, ‘Stronger Than You Think’ is a short experimental action film that promotes female empowerment with a supernatural underbelly. In spite of the films limited 1 minute runtime, the action-packed narrative manages to allure the viewer with stellar cinematography, music and sound. Noa Drisdale leads the cast as the central protagonist – a performance that won’t disappoint. Prepare to be enchanted with the film’s salient themes, upbeat tone and an intriguing main character.

The short opens in an elevator, where an elegant young woman appreciates her undisputed beauty in the mirror. As the doors open, the woman – with confidence – strolls through an isolated car park. Without trepidation, she revolts against the threatening antagonists with her superpowers – before leaping onto a white horse – symbolising her unrestrained freedom. Within a blink of an eye, the horse converts into a luxury sports car. The film concludes with the text: “Act like you think… think like you are”.

Grégory Caron’s musical composition and sound design acts as the heartbeat of the entire short – reminiscent of a commercial advertisement. Laurent Stine’s adept craftsmanship and narrative objective deserves high praise and acclaim – an inspiration watch that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Noa Drisdale delivers an appealing portrayal throughout, despite the admittance of character dialogue – a supreme embodiment of vigorousness and conviction. Cinematography (Julien Lambert) is accomplished with expert proficiency that is certain to keep viewers engaged. Lighting and post-production is equally commendable. An unmissable micro-short. Highly recommended.
