Review

Written, directed and animated by Hannah A Collins, ‘A Day in the Life of a Pig’ is an animated micro-short that follows one pigs simple routine from sunrise to sunset. 17-year-old Collins has created an endearing film for kids that will guarantee a smile. This 2D animation is entirely without dialogue and is accompanied by a cheerful soundtrack.

The 1-minute film opens with a pink pig leaving its barn and journeying towards a petting zoo. At the petting zoo the pig is fondled by various animal lovers. On return, the pig meets another – where they blissfully leap into the sky. The short concludes back at the barn with the moonlit sky filled with stars. ‘A Day in the Life of a Pig’ is an uplifting film with a straightforward narrative – a perfect watch for small children.

High praise to Hannah A Colins for delivering a winsome animation – a promising future awaits. Visually, this 2D digital animation is constructed with standard colours and simplistic illustration. Student instructor and facilitator George Kochell assisted Collins in post-production. The micro-short was produced at Gava/GATe Animation Class at Greenbelt Access Television (GATe). Fellow student Chris Dingman composed and performed the original soundtrack. A highly entertaining film for small children.
