Real Fantasies

Dreams and reality are intertwined in an exciting gay drama.
4/5

Review

Written and directed by Nikita Khripach, ‘Real Fantasies’ is a LGBTQ+ themed drama that explores the thin line between reality and fantasy. Jared Smith leads the cast as Nick, a sociology student who has erotic desires towards his yoga instructor (Mark Ashin). Xavier Miller stars as Nick’s roommate, Ricky. The short film tackles a multitude of subjects from spirituality, jealousy and mental health.

The film opens with Nick attending a yoga class. Troy (the charming yoga instructor) quotes Albert Einstein; “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” Nick’s anxiety builds throughout the short as we see his sexual/erotic desires increase for Troy. Mid-way through the 18-minute drama we learn of Nick’s fantasy/dreams for the yoga instructor and his one-night-stand with roommate Ricky.

Visually, the film is beautifully captured with outstanding cinematography coupled with captivating and engaging performances from all entire cast. Khripach and his cast/crew have delivered an exciting gay short film that explores romantic fantasy and reality. The drama concludes with Troy hinting that Nick’s dreams were of, in fact, reality. Mark Ashin (Troy) and Jared Smith (Nick) work well together, creating exciting, albeit brutal, tension. High praise to Nikita Khripach (Writer/Director) for delivering a sensual, romantic short. Highly recommended.
