Mark Mohn’s ‘A Good Man?‘ takes an intriguing stab at exploring deception and the duality of human nature. Michael Kropf stars as an unassuming young man, who on a casual day off, seems like the model of a good neighbor – helpful, friendly, and ordinary. But Mohn has something darker up his sleeve.
For a low-budget film, the technical shortcomings are noticeable. The cinematography doesn’t quite hit the mark, and the editing feels rough around the edges. Despite these hiccups, Mohn manages to keep you watching, which is no small feat for a filmmaker finding his feet. There’s a rawness to the work that shows potential, even if the craft needs more refinement.
The twist ending? No spoilers, but it’ll make you sit up and question everything you’ve just witnessed. It’s executed well, delivering a punch without resorting to cheap theatrics. Michael Kropf’s portrayal is admirable, cleverly embodying the deceptive charm of his character.
The big misstep, however, is the soundtrack. It feels out of sync and bizzare. Still, ‘A Good Man?’ is a decent starting point for Mohn, showing that while the execution might wobble, the storytelling instincts are definitely there. With a bit more practice, he could deliver something really gripping down the line.
