A hilariously heartfelt journey of self-love wrapped in quirky comedy and unexpected twists.
5/5

Review

In ‘King Ed’, written and directed by the talented Nick Fascitelli, Brendan Scannell dazzles as Ed, a man hilariously convinced that his ex-boyfriend Joseph is his soulmate, purely based on a shared playlist. What begins as a quest to rekindle a doomed relationship quickly morphs into a riotous journey of self-discovery, thanks to the eccentric guidance of Ketamine Oracle, portrayed by Sufe Bradshaw. This unconventional therapist delivers a bombshell revelation – Joseph didn’t even make the playlist, sending Ed spiraling into an unexpected adventure.

Fascitelli’s script is sharp and witty, with every scene expertly balancing humor and heart. His direction brings out the best in his cast, allowing Scannell to shine as the neurotic yet endearing Ed. Scannell’s portrayal makes us laugh while also tugging at our heartstrings. Bradshaw’s Oracle adds a sassy, mystical layer to the narrative, guiding Ed through his emotional turmoil with equal parts wisdom and wit.

The film is a visual treat, with cinematographer TJ Williams Jr. crafting each scene with a vibrant, polished aesthetic that perfectly complements the story’s tone. Fascitelli’s ability to blend humor with deeper emotional beats ensures ‘King Ed’ is a touching exploration of self-love and identity.

‘King Ed’ is a credit to Fascitelli’s skill as both a writer and director, delivering a comedy that is as outrageously funny as it is heartfelt. Fascitelli not only wrote and directed the film but also stepped into the role of Joseph, showcasing his versatility as both a filmmaker and an actor. This is a short film with big laughs and even bigger heart. Highly recommenced.
