Written and directed by Elijah Rodriguez, ‘The Perfect Daughter’ is a short horror that delivers chilling suspense and captivating performances throughout. Laurel Brower stars as Elena – a film school student who scouts a remote mansion for her film. Isabelle Garbani co-stars as Annie – the psychopathic Airbnb owner who has misleading intensions.

The 5-minute thriller opens as Elena greets Annie at her home. Elena initially empathizes with Annie, who reveals she lives alone after the death of her husband. Annie is also childless – but always wanted the perfect daughter. Upon touring the home, Elena is alarmed by a distressing scream from inside the house. She is quickly captured upon escape and the owner’s real intensions are revealed.

Visually, the short outshines many horror thrillers – with outstanding cinematography, sound and lighting. The film is set entirely within one location – the house – which sets an eerie tone from the get-go. Laurel Brower’s performance as Elena is commendable – she delivers authentic empathy to the audience.
